Food Pantry

The food pantry at Wesley helps provide for those in need in our community. Each person receives a canvas bag filled with healthy and hearty non-perishable groceries - enough to feed a small family for three days.  Included in the bag is information about our church, a Book of Bible Promises, and a hand written note of encouragement.  The food pantry receives donations of non-perishable food items from all church members, and Wesley UMW also contributes funds. It is Wesley's way of saying "we love you" to all who are in need.

Clothes Closet

We believe that it is a scriptural command to clothe the needy.  Through the help of the UMW, Trustees, and congregation, a free clothes closet has been established in the dry storage room of the van garage.  We have men’s, women’s, and children’s shoes and clothes in all sizes.  We only ask for the name, address and phone numbe of those who partake.  We are open the second Friday and fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  In times of immediate need, the clothes are available.  You may donate gently used items anytime by placing them in the Seekers (Singles) Sunday School Classroom.

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen Meal

For almost 10 years Wesley UMC has provided the evening meal the fourth Thursday of every month for the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.  We cook the food at our own homes or in the church kitchen before we go.  We provide a meal for the Boys and Girls Club at 5:15 and the people of the community who come at 6:00 p.m.  We serve between 40 and 100 people each time.  We also give a short devotion before the 6:00 p.m. meal and take prayer requests and pray.  We have a planned menu each month.  We welcome all who want to provide a dish for this meal.

Sunday Feeding in the Park

This is an outreach of a local Shawnee not-for-profit agency, Hope to Offer, that feeds the community’s homeless population each Sunday afternoon.  Typically 60-100 men, women and children are fed each Sunday.  Wesley's United Methodist Women sponsor this outreach event one Sunday each month.  Volunteers shop, prepare and transport the meal to Woodland Park where it is served.  This is a great opportunity for Wesley members of all ages to share the love of Christ by serving those less fortunate with a great meal and a friendly smile.

Family Promise

Family Promise is made up of a network of churches that have a desire to help at-risk families find their way.  Churches in our community work together to provide housing and food while parents attend practical day classes on resumé building and job interview etiquette.  Wesley is currently a helper church in this ministry, and we are in need of volunteers to help with meals and/or stay overnight at a sister church with Family Promise guests.

VIM

Volunteers in Mission is a vital part of our United Methodist tradition.  VIM is all about missions that reach beyond our church and our community.  Oklahoma VIM is directed by Jeremy Bassett.  VIM mission teams go to many areas of the world and are always led by a trained VIM leader. Wesley has taken part in many VIM trips over the years.
